Northern Territory skilled visa nomination for 190 and 491

The Northern Territory nominates skilled people for the permanent Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the regional Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491).

Is Northern Territory nomination open right now?

The Northern Territory has pathways for people living and working in the Territory and limited offshore streams. Check the official NT Government skilled migration pages for the current status of each stream. Some priority streams stay closed while backlogs clear.

What visas can the Northern Territory nominate?

  • Subclass 190 — permanent residence.
  • Subclass 491 — five-year provisional regional visa.

You still need at least 65 points on the federal points test.

How does the Northern Territory select people?

The Territory looks at your connection to the Northern Territory, occupation demand, work history and your SkillSelect points. It does not publish a single fixed ranking formula. Selection is at the Territory’s discretion.

What do I need to do?

  1. Confirm your occupation and stream are open on the current NT list.
  2. Have a valid skills assessment and an accurate SkillSelect EOI.
  3. Meet any work or residence requirements for the stream you are applying under.
  4. If invited or eligible, complete the nomination application.
