New South Wales skilled visa nomination for 190 and 491

NSW nominates skilled people for the permanent Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the regional Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491). Selection is by invitation from SkillSelect.

Is NSW nomination open right now?

NSW programs open and close as places fill. Check the official NSW skilled migration pages for the current status of subclass 190 and 491 pathways. An invitation is never guaranteed.

What visas can NSW nominate?

  • Subclass 190 — permanent residence. You are usually expected to live and work in NSW.
  • Subclass 491 — five-year provisional regional visa with a pathway to permanent residence later.

You still need at least 65 points on the federal SkillSelect points test and a suitable skills assessment.

How does NSW select people?

NSW invites the highest-ranking Expressions of Interest within each occupation group. Ranking looks at factors such as age, English, education, points and skilled work experience. There is no single published pass mark. Invitations are at NSW’s discretion.

What do I need to do?

  1. Confirm your occupation is on the current NSW Skills List.
  2. Have a valid skills assessment and an accurate SkillSelect EOI that selects NSW.
  3. Meet any work, residence or study connection requirements for the pathway you are considering.
  4. If invited, apply for nomination within the time NSW gives you.
